Daniel is a 10 month old male Collie cross English Cocker Spaniel. He is a very loving boy, within two hours of being in our home he was on our laps giving us kisses and asking for belly rubs. Unfortunately, he isn’t friendly to everyone, he tends to be a bit nervous and scared of new people.
On a walk If Daniel sees someone with a dog he will lunge and cry and bark to get to them, he does however LOVE to run and play in a park with our German Shepherd. For this reason, we believe a home with land, or a working home could be great for him so he can get the exercise he needs while feeling safe in his surroundings. Daniel can unfortunately become over stimulated on his walks therefore a quieter home who can support multiple shorter walks would also be great!
He loves to be on the move and will be your shadow, that is unless there is a dog and a toy to be played with. Daniel is still a puppy and is learning to read dogs body language. He will happily play with our 2 basset hounds for hours on end. He can occasionally become a little OTT and has caught our dogs out; however, he is slowly learning when enough is enough and will take himself off to lay down.
We believe a doggy buddy who is more dominant will be the perfect partner for Daniel, a submissive or elderly dog may not be the right fit to fulfil his rambunctious needs. He has been muzzle trained and will happily stay in his muzzle both inside and outside the home if required to get him used to new animals and surroundings.
When outside the home and there are no other dogs or people in sight, Daniel truly is a pleasure to walk, he sits at kerbs and just wants to be with you. In the home he can get excited by noises outside and be keen to see what is happening and bark. When this occurs, we distract him with “Sit, Touch Paw”. To mitigate this issue, I would suggest a home not on a main road.
He requires careful and slow introductions with people in the home else he can become nervous and want to guard or hide. We first met Daniel in our home where everything was new and he was fantastic, however visitors entering the home have not had the same reaction. He truly is a wonderful boy who just requires time and training, as soon as he trusts you he will love you unconditionally.
