Rosey is an 8 year old female English Cocker Spaniel. She is an ex breeding bitch who came to us from a breeder told to reduce his numbers so she is used to the company of other dogs, on her own terms. She is gentle and extremely loving and would suit a home with a single person or a couple as long as they share care duties, otherwise from experience so far, she will attach herself to 1 person. Rosey is untested with children in a home environment but is happy to say hello when out and about. She is not a bouncy active girl and doesn’t need masses of exercise. She loves getting out, is getting used to walking on a lead and gets very excited when her harness is produced. She loves nothing more than a trot around the park and a good sniff. She has been off lead in an enclosed area only where her recall is improving. At present we cannot get her interested in chasing balls etc but she has taken to a soft toy she had for Christmas. When she’s out she likes meeting and greeting people and often makes a bee line to say hello.
Rosey thoroughly enjoys her meals but is not food obsessed. When she came she didn’t like treats, presumably because she was never given them, but will now take one making training easier. We have found that praise is working as well as treats at this point. She is learning basic commands and will sit for her meals but house training is a work in progress. She is dry all night and just needs prompting at regular intervals during the day as she’ll not ask to go out. She will generally go on command once she is outside, although the process of getting her there sometimes requires a bit of effort.
Rosey is bright and alert and would benefit from more training. She has been fostered in a home with other dogs but there is no connection or bonding and would be happiest in a home with no dogs where she is the centre of attention. We have had jealousy issues between her and our resident dominant bitch which has resulted in scuffles.
She loves being groomed, bathed, toweled and generally being made a fuss of and is very happy to snuggle with you on the sofa. She is fine with traffic and household noises but would not go outside to do her business when there were fireworks around. She travels well once she is in the car but will not jump in without assistance although we know she is capable of jumping as we have found her curled up on the sofa.
We have not tested her on her own totally but she is happy left in the company of other dogs for a few hours and sleeps downstairs with them uncrated at night. Coming from a somewhat deprived background Rosey has adapted happily to a warm loving home but comes with a few issues that the right home and understanding owners could easily deal with. She is very loving and would devote herself to her new family.
Rosey is not spayed due to the timings of her season and will be rehomed with a contract to do so and not with entire males. She is chipped vaccinated wormed and flead and adoption is subject to meet and greet homecheck and adoption fee. Applications via forms section of website please.
